Bali: Laguna Resort & Spa accounts for a tropical paradise

27 September 2009, 21:30:38 - (336 hits)

What would your reaction be if you walked into a hotel room to find a yellow and black sarong, a matching scarf, a wooden frangipani hairgrip and jute slippers arranged in a neat pile on the bed? I simply thought I had stepped into the wrong room till I found the little note telling me it was the outfit I would have to wear to for the visit to Tanah Lot, one of the seven sea temples that dot the coast of Bali.

It is this attention to every detail, and the natural warmth exuded by every member of the staff, from top management to the bellboys, at the Laguna Resort and Spa in Nusa Dua, Bali, that takes the luxury and the beauty of the tropical paradise to a newer altitude. On one hand was the endless sandy beach that extended from one end of the horizon to the other, on the other the blue, transparent and shimmering water of the lagoon that I could access at any time of the day, if I just tugged at the wicker gate on my suite’s porch.

Surprisingly, lazing is simply what I didn’t get to do during my stay at the Laguna, probably because I was the over-enthusiastic visitor who wanted to get a taste of as many of the seven pillars of wellness characteristic to the resorts under the Starwood Spa Collection banner. After a quick attempt at blending into the culture of Bali by visiting Tanah Lot at sunset in our Balinese costume, we headed for our fill of prawns and lobster on the cliff overlooking the sea, only to be entertained by music that we didn’t expect to reach our ears off Indian shores - a rendition of a classic from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
